Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the questions we hear most often.

Visa

Most non-EU students need a student visa or residence permit. Requirements vary by nationality, so we help you confirm the exact process for your country during GSA Launch™.

We recommend starting the visa process at least four to six months before your intended start date, since appointment availability varies significantly by country.

In most cases, yes — proof of financial resources, often through a blocked account, is a standard visa requirement.

University

We assess your academic background, budget, city preferences and career goals to build a realistic, ranked shortlist during GSA Launch™.

Not always — many programs, especially at Master's level, are taught fully in English. That said, a basic level of German significantly improves daily life and job prospects.

APS is a document verification process required for applicants from certain countries. We walk you through the exact requirements based on your nationality.

Language

It depends on your program. English-taught programs may require none for admission, but A2–B1 is strongly recommended for daily life and part-time work.

With consistent study, most students reach a workable A2–B1 level within six to twelve months.

Housing

Student dorms are usually cheaper and easier to secure remotely; WGs offer more independence but require being in-country to view and apply.

As early as possible — ideally three to four months before arrival, especially in high-demand cities.

Work

Yes, within legal limits that depend on your visa status — typically up to 120 full days or 240 half days per year for non-EU students.

A working student position, usually up to 20 hours per week during the semester, related to your field of study — often a strong first step toward a full-time offer.

Finance & Taxes

Most students budget between €900 and €1,200 per month depending on the city; we help you build a realistic, personalised budget in GSA Launch™.

It depends on your income level and work arrangement. We cover the basics in our Knowledge Hub and refer you to a tax advisor for individual filings.
